Ultimate Chain Explained: How Combo Finishers Work
How the Kingsguard TD Ultimate Chain works: charge ultimates, cast inside the five-second window and trigger every chained hero’s combo finisher. Tips included.
The Ultimate Chain is the signature mechanic of Kingsguard TD: Heroes & Magic. It rewards timing over button-mashing: cast your heroes’ ultimates together and they combine into a combo finisher far stronger than any single spell.
How do ultimates charge?
Every hero has an ultimate meter that fills as the hero attacks. Faster attackers charge sooner, and boons that increase attack speed help too. When a meter is full, the hero glows – tap the hero (or their ultimate icon) to cast. Ultimates can be held, so you choose the moment.
What starts a chain?
Casting any ultimate opens a five-second chain window, shown as a depleting bar with a “Chain Ultimate!” prompt. Cast another hero’s ultimate before the bar empties and the chain grows. Ready ultimates are highlighted so you can see who can join.
What happens when the chain ends?
When the window closes, every hero who took part in the chain unleashes a combo finisher – their portraits flash across the screen and their finishers land together.

Tips for bigger chains
- Hold a charged ultimate. If one hero is ready and another is close, wait – then cast both inside the window.
- Combine control and damage. The Cleric’s slow and the Blademaster’s slashes herd enemies into the centre, right where the Pyromancer’s fire column and the Chakram’s giant blade land.
- Save chains for spikes. Boss phases, elite waves and swarms of Goblin Bombers heading for the wall are the moments a five-hero chain turns the fight.
- Watch the timer, not the battlefield. The window is short. Glance at the chain bar before you commit.
